The Most Beautiful Convertible Drives in the North West United States

This week, we’re taking you on a scenic road trip to the northwestern portion of the United States to discover the stunning sights and bountiful beauty of the region’s lush landscape. From the untamed wilderness of Yellowstone National Park to the majestic peak of Mount Rainier, you’ll enjoy soaking up these spectacular surroundings.

Pack a poncho and make sure your convertible top is working because three of our list’s scenic byways are in the constantly rainy conditions of Washington and Oregon. Hop in your car and enjoy these drives before winter rolls around—these routes can get frigid after Fall. Without further ado, here are a few of our favorite convertible drive experiences in the northwest USA.

Oregon Coast Highway

Cruise along stunning, rocky ocean side cliffs and get acquainted with the sea by driving along Oregon’s coastline. Along the way, you’ll discover views that surpass even the heavily-edited pictures in travel brochures and post cards. Better yet, the entire expanse of the Oregon coast is open to the public for exploring! Can’t miss stops along the way include Astoria, Cannon Beach and the Tillamook Cheese Factory. When visiting Cannon Beach, channel your inner movie geek and check out Haystack Rock—as seen in “The Goonies” and “Kindergarten Cop”.

The North Cascade Loop

October is an ideal time to take a trip through Washington’s colorful Cascade Loop. As you drive, you’ll be astounded by the multitude of transitioning red, orange and gold leaves enveloping the roadway. Make sure to allocate plenty of time for scenic stops—there are countless hiking, canoeing and fishing opportunities along the way. Consider taking a quick ferry ride across The Columbia River. Another must see is the towering 265-foot waterfall at the heart of the Wallace Falls state park.

Chinook Pass

Drive throughout Mount Rainier National Park and enjoy the most popular scenic drive the state of Washington has to offer. Bring bundles of extra layers and traverse the trails as well as the quant town of Enumclaw near the park’s entrance. Travel the Chinook Pass in October while you still can—it typically closes in November due to snowfall and potential avalanches.

Beartooth Highway

Referenced as “the most beautiful drive in America” by CBS reporter Charles Kuralt, the Beartooth Highway is a true treasure. Pass through the Custer National Forest and the Absaroka Wilderness on your way to visit the famous Old Faithful Geyser at Yellowstone. Make sure to come prepared when traversing this route—high altitude can trigger snowstorms even in the summer months.

Take a trek to the northwest and experience the freeing sensation of driving a convertible through wilderness and along coastal cliffs. While these four routes are a good beginning, there are plenty of breathtaking roadways that we have yet to travel—comment below with your suggestions. We look forward to reading them and riding alongside you!
